Barry began working for the BBC in the late 40’s early 50s working on several Radio shows with stars such as Hoagy Carmichael and Eartha Kitt. |   |
While working with Vera Lynn, Barry met Gerry Anderson, and this
was to be the defining moment of his career. He was appointed as the musical director at AP Films, a partnership between Gerry Anderson and Arthur Provis.
He converted two rooms at his mother’s house in
Dollis Hill into a recording and sound studio. (Very much in the way Joe Meek would produce his hits 10 years later.) It was here that he created the Music for ‘Torchy The Battery Boy’ an early puppet
series created by Roberta Leigh. The full collaboration with Gerry Anderson came with “Four Feather Falls” a puppet western, were Barry took control not only with the music but helping to develop the format of the show.
After that he worked on all of Anderson’s productions, from ‘Supercar’ to 'Space 1999'.
He went on to work on Film such as “Dr. Who And The Daleks” and “Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 AD” working in collaboration with composers Malcolm Lockyer and Bill McGuffie.
In 1966 he composed the music to the film “Thunderbirds are Go!” were for the first time in his career
he, conducted a full symphony orchestra.
He worked on many other films but he will always be
associated with the 'Supermarionation'of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.
