March 23, 2011
Johnny Pearson  1925- 2011

He began his musical career on BBC radio as a pianist
working on ‘The Goon show’. His move into television
came in 1957 were  he is credited for the catchy
hornepipe  ditty used on the BBC Children’s cartoon ‘
Captain pugwash’. But is for  thirty  years as a
composer, arranger and pianist who working  on the
popoular BBC show ‘Top of the Pops, he may best be
remembered.
Amongst his many musical credits are the themes to theTV
Series, ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, ‘Owen MD’ (
aka Sleepy Shores), Sports Programme Superstars and the
Yorkshire Television 1970’s quiz show 321.
The score ‘The Awakenening’ was adapted by Johnny and
became the iconic theme to ITV’s flagship news
programme News at Ten.
He was also responsible for writing the start up music
for the Grampian and ATV regions.
His Chart success as
nom de plumbe ‘Sounds Orchestral ‘ came with the moody
‘Cast your fates to the wind’ reaching number 5 in the Hit
parade, further chart success  followed under this
guise.
 Maybe not as
famous as many of his contemporaries but in my opinion,
just as influential

The Day The Music Died - John Barry OBE 1933-2011

January 31, 2011

Composer John Barry has died today aged 77.
His career spanned almost 50 years and there was not a genre of music he didn’t touch. He was most well known for his’ James Bond Scores’, namely, ‘From Russia with love’, ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Diamonds are forever’.Other notable film work included ‘Midnight Cowboy’, ‘Born Free’ and ‘Out of Africa’.
In my opinion much of his greatest work was for the
small screen. Starting his career as The John Barry Seven he had a hit with...

October 30, 2010

Gary Hello I’m Gary, the guy behind ‘Sounds Familiar’. Every since I can remember I’ve always loved TV and Film soundtracks, particularly those from my formative years that being the 1960’s and 1970’s. I really enjoying tapping into the much under rated genre known as Library music, if you dig deep enough you can unearth some real gems. That’s what ‘Sounds Familiar’ is all about. Thanks for visiting and please come back soon. If you'd like to comment please click on the Blog Name and a comments dialogue box will open.
